Level 2 Certificate for the Children & Young People's Workforce
This certificate has been designed specifically for people working in children and young people's services in a supporting role e.g. a child care worker or special educational needs assistant.
This qualification has been designed to:
- provide a broad understanding of the children and young people's workforce sector and an introduction to the practical skills and knowledge required
- provide an awareness of the range of jobs and work settings in the children and young people's sector
- enable learners to make an informed assessment of their own aptitude for work in this sector and to make informed decisions about careers
- encourage learners to reach a level of knowledge and skills that will facilitate progress into further vocational learning or to potential employment in the sector
- introduce learners to the discipline of the working environment and to encourage mature attitudes to the community in general
- encourage learners to value continued learning and remain in the learning process
- allow learners to learn, develop and practise selected skills required for progression in the sector
- provide opportunities for progression to the Level 3 Diploma and other related qualifications in the sector.
To achieve a Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People's Workforce you will need a total of 35 Credits gained by demonstrating your skills, knowledge, understanding, care values and attitudes across mandatory and optional units.
31 Credits will be gained by completing the following 16 Mandatory Units:
- Introduction to Communication in Health, Social Care or Children's and Young People's Settings
- Introduction to Personal Development in Health, Social Care or Children's and Young People's Settings
- Introduction to Equality and Inclusion in Health, Social Care or Children's and Young People's Settings
- Child and Young Person Development
- Contribute to the Support of Child and Young Person Development
- Safeguarding the Welfare of Children and Young People
- Contribute to Children and Young People's Health and Safety
- Support Children and Young People's Positive Behaviour
- Contribute to the Support of Positive Environments for Children and Young People
- Understand Partnership Working in Services for Children and Young People
- Maintain and Support Relationships with Children and Young People
- Paediatric Emergency First Aid
- Managing Paediatric Illness and Injury
The remaining 4 Credits will be gained by completing Optional Units. You will need to choose Optional Units that suit your career plans.
Optional Units include:
- Support Children and Young People with Disabilities and Special Educational Needs
- Understand Child and Young Person Development
- Develop Positive Relationships with Children, Young People and Others Involved in their Care
- Working Together for the Benefit of Children and Young People
- Understand How to Support Positive Outcomes for Children and Young People
- Introduction to Duty of Care in Health, Social Care or Children's and Young People's Setting
