Awards and Certificates in Dementia Care

Currently 700,000 people in the UK have dementia and this figure is expected to double over the next few decades. The Awards in Awareness of Dementia/Certificates in Dementia Care have been designed to help to improve health and care services supporting individuals diagnosed with dementia.

The qualifications in awareness of dementia and dementia care are aimed at occupational areas across all service user groups and ages, working in statutory (including NHS), private and voluntary agencies. This also includes healthcare/care assistants, support/key workers, family support workers and team leaders/first line supervisors. They are stand alone qualifications and can also be used to provide credits towards other health and social care qualifications e.g. Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) or contribute towards continuing professional development.

If you have little or no knowledge of dementia and/or dementia care then a Level 2 qualification would be the most appropriate.

The Level 3 qualifications are appropriate for people who have a basic knowledge of dementia and/or dementia care and want to progress further and increase their knowledge and skills.

There are four specialist Dementia qualifications available. These are:

Level 2 Award in Awareness of Dementia

Level 2 Certificate in Dementia Care

Level 3 Award in Awareness of Dementia

Level 3 Certificate in Dementia Care
