Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People's Services
This is highest level of vocational qualification currently available for people working in adult health and social care and is suitable for anyone who is in a leadership and management role. It replaces the Level 4 NVQ Leadership and Management in Care Services and Level 4 NVQ Health and Social Care qualifications to offer a hybrid qualification. It is suitable for people working in a leadership and management role within the following areas:
- residential services for older people; younger adults or children;
- domiciliary care services;
- day services and community based services;
- adoption and fostering services.
- managers and assistant managers.
There are six pathways available for this diploma to reflect the different roles undertaken at this level. 3 pathways are for candidates working in adult services and 3 are for those working in children and young people services.

As well as the 'mandatory' tasks you may be undertaking a range of specific tasks related to either your job role specifically or the service you are managing i.e. for adults or children and young people.
To achieve a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People's Services you will need a total of 80 Credits gained by demonstrating your skills, knowledge, understanding, care values and attitudes across mandatory and optional units. The number of credits from mandatory and optional units is as follows:
- Children and Young People's Residential Management
- 64 credits are from mandatory units and 16 from optional units
- Children and Young People's Management
- 58 credits are from mandatory units and 22 from optional units
- Children and Young People's Advanced Practice
- 46 credits are from mandatory units and 34 from optional units
- Adults Residential Management
- 52 credits are from mandatory units and 28 from optional units
- Adults Management
- 53 credits are from mandatory units and 27 from optional units
- Adults Advanced Practice
- 41 credits are from mandatory units and 39 from optional units
